FACT 65 – AAAND THE WINNERS ARE!!!

yes, that’s right, i, who have no jewelry skill/experience/you-name-it (although apparently i do have a comma fetish…) was named judge in the wireworkers anonymous club Rings of Wire contest. you can view the contest entries here and the winners here, but the win-winnerers started with the lovely and wonderful ahaxamazingxsin and her Crystal Collection Two. i would like to state for the record that judging this contest? was bloody difficult. i’m just wondering, participants, just, you know, as a courtesy to the judges, you know, next time could you maybe suck a little more? just a few of you, just a tad. come on, take one for the team! (^_^)

… no, huh. crap.

alright then, about Crystal Collection Two, i ended up choosing it because of its simplicity. the contest specs said rings + wire, and there is virtually nothing but rings made of wire in this piece. the crystals are just enough to offset the wire rings and bring forth the hot shiny-ness of them. can you say drool? yes, i think you can.

in second place was Snake Ring by ajazzydancer. this one definitely won because of its oddness. and again because of its simplicity. pretty much everybody took the theme and ran with it, but these two did it especially well. i think anyone looking at these pieces could guess the theme of the contest without too much trouble. also, i might actually wear this ring, and that turns out to be quite an impressive thing for me.

third place! sojourncuriosities‘s Passage Ring! now, i am what you might call a “sucker” for a piece with a good story behind it, and while a key on a ring might seem a little odd (hmm, theme much?) the overall design and idea gave me at least a few ideas~

and now for the part of the journal that has nothing to do with jewelry: when i go to see who’s been linking to my YOUkun translation blog, whenever i see something starting with http://xjustxn0thingx.livejournal.com/ i know i’m coming up on some juicy boyxboy action. i must admit i’m a tad weak for yaoi, and most of her stuff is either a) way too adorable to pass up or b) way too hawt to pass up. so if you like gackt/YOU/whomever/whatever, go for it. if not? don’t bother.

oh yeah, also? i’ve gotten some better pics of my death note book, what i’m wondering is, would anybody out there be interested in buying one? yes? no? hell no?

fact 64 – new heights of NERddom

because the indiana jones books weren’t enough. also because a certain anime recently started on [adult swim].

i don’t know, but i might put one up for sale. this one’s mine, plus it’s a little damaged (after an accident involving too much sealer). it’s basically a composition book covered with chalkboard contact paper, which turns out to look a fair amount like fake leather notebook covers as it turns out. i need to get some black spine tape to prevent the contact paper from folding too harshly and cracking, and i really wish i could find a silver leafing pen with a smaller nib, but for the moment i’m quite happy with it. now if you’ll pardon me, i just found a copy of Dreamfall at half price books and i must incurr more NERd points.

FACT 60 – faire

well that’s two craft shows in two weeks. i’m pretty sure my brain’s going to explode now. a fact which isn’t helped by the fact that i made twenty-four dollars today. that’s right, 24 dollars, 24, twenty-four, two four. *poit* one or two more shows, and i’m done. if i were smart, i’d concentrate on my etsy shop. course it also didn’t help that i’ve been sneezing every five or ten minutes since i woke up (at seven bleeding thirty ante meridian, i might add), and that i went through four of those pocket packs of tissues today, AND that we have no caffine in this house, AND AND AND that i have no more supplies to make more books. what i have is all there is until someone buys something.

… alright, my patience is low this afternoon. enough whining from me. what you should go check out is FreeRice.com. you test your vocab, they donate rice. the very definition of win-win. my average score? 38.

fact 58 – ok.

see. sometimes it’s really a wonder i know how to breathe. what really gets me is when i wipe a hard drive or a flash drive or, in this case, when i switch operating systems a couple/three times in my never-ending urge to out NERd the rest of the planet, and then i don’t realize that i haven’t backed up that one certain special WRITING FOLDER until, like, a month later. do i have any hope of recovering the data? i do not. do i even remember what was in the folder? not so much. am i pretty pissed off about losing stories i can no longer even recall? hm.

[ ok, i think this is just a bad data month. yuu recently lost a bunch of his data, too, so i guess i can at least be thankful that i remembered to back up the things i actually can’t live without, and that i don’t have a terabyte of data to backup. that’s gonna be a lot of CDs there, dear. (^^’) ]

fact 57 – sauce

that is all.

heheh. actually, i’d like to say that NaNo starts in a less than 72 hours, and i still have not chosen a plot. and yes, the options listed on flickr are my actual choices. not having to worry about quality is actually quite liberating. i may end up using the pirate captain as some pre-nano warm-up, but i don’t know. i don’t wanna spend all my writing budget before november even shows up. i haven’t written anything in so long, i’m a little nervous. (^_^) i think of all my characters, i like the pirate captain the best at the moment. he’s the most interesting. also, i bought a bunch of pirate gear at the halloween store this afternoon, so i’m pirate happy. seriously though, how could an eye patch not help me write?

the other thing i can’t forget to mention is that my sister and i are starting our marathon string of craft shows this saturday with the Clintonville Women’s Show in Columbus OH. we’ll be there hocking our wares on the 3rd of november (that’s right, during nano – don’t be surprised if you see me scribbling furiously in between sales!) and then we’ll be at ascention lutheran on morse rd the 10th, Beechcroft High School (my alma mater!) on the 24th, and … um … i forget where, but another one on the 10th of december. or whatever that weekend is anyway. man, i’m gonna be broken when it’s all over. hopefully not broke, but definitely broken. (^_^) so come see the start of it all. the Clintonville Women’s Hall is behind the Whetstone branch of the library on High St. if you need directions or details, just let me know~

FACT 56 – five parts disgruntled lord of the underworld

Brought to you by a contractually-obligated Satan, this tutorial will guide you through the process of binding your very own blank journal using a double-layered diamond X technique, sometimes called a “renaissance” binding. Starting with materials and layout, it continues right through to the end, including cover preparation and quesadilla intermission. Inquire within for instruction in two parts pictures, one part tutorial, and five parts disgruntled lord of the underworld.

Is that supposed to be a compliment?
You can certainly take it as one if you’d like.

FACT 55 – my age

i swear that was a waste of my booth fee. i guess that’s pretty rude to just blurt out like that, but i made $5. carolyn made eight. i can only hope that this was first time blues and that next year’s show will be a) better advertised and b) better signed. we were in a room kind of off the main path, but the fact is, there weren’t terribly many customers in the building, let alone in our little room. also, we were in said tiny room with two older women, who, as old ladies are wont to do, spent ALL DAY gossiping about people at their church. now at first, i was like, ok, whatever, but after SIX STRAIGHT HOURS of it, i was ready to stab. it didn’t help that i was running on maybe four good hours of sleep and that carolyn was her normal chatty self, also all day long. i suppose i should be thankful seeing as a) i’m a horrid sales person and b) carolyn was the one bringing all the customers over to our table, but still. i was pretty much done an hour before the show even closed.

so were other vendors, apparently. some of them even left before noon. i was a little surprised. i mean, they (i (my mother) ) paid good money for that table/space/whatever, so you’d think they’d at least stay the whole time. as a matter of fact, both carolyn’s and my sales happened within the last half hour of the show.

on the other hand, i did get three fairly cool ACEOs finished, and i got this awesome consolation prize from my mummy!

in other news… i like creamed corn.

well, ok, yes, i do, but that’s not terribly relevant, is it.

i managed to install a slightly newer version of windows 95 onto my zenith. the modem drivers won’t install properly, though, because the floppy disk version i had to make (since my poor baby does not even own a cd rom) only has one version of the driver on it. i’m going to see if i can just replace them on the floppy with the right version, since it seems to be just a matter of switching the folders around, but if that doesn’t work, i’m going to have to figure out how to get the CD image on my puny little hard drive via (an army) of floppy disks and then mount the image somehow under windows ninety-five. yeah, i know.

oh yeah, also, NANO!
